Athens, the capital of Greece and immense metropolis, is the cradle of civilisation and democracy. In every corner, one perceives how much the past is still alive thanks to the Greek mythology of Olympus and its gods, making us experience a fantasy world between dream and reality.
Greek mythology narrates exploits and legends concerning the gods, with writings and sources dating back to the 9th and 8th century BCE when masterpieces such as Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey were born. According to traditions, the Greek gods dwelt on Mount Olympus in the region of Thessaly, north of Greece, hierarchically organised according to their power and authority with absolute freedom of movement throughout the real and divine world. Furthermore, the gods were considered immortal, and any natural manifestation depended on their will, demonstrating nature’s extraordinary power over man’s weaknesses.
Let us explore the city of Athens based on the sacred sites built to venerate these gods.
