Trifels: the story behind the three hills

Wandering amidst the ancient walls and towering trees, you’ll find yourself enveloped in the distinctive ambiance of the Palatinate forests, where the past beckons to be unveiled. The central theme of our adventure is undeniably medieval, set against a backdrop that seamlessly blends the forces of nature and history.

Venturing through the untamed woods, you will uncover the secrets of three historical treasures: Scharfenberg, Anebos, and the majestic Trifels imperial castle.

It is possible to leave the car at: Parkplatz Ahlmühle 76855 Leinsweiler.

Trifels Castle requires a low-price ticket for the visit and it must be purchased directly at the entrance.

At the end, once completed the visit at Trifels castle, climb down the same route walked before and simply follow the asphalt road that runs west along the hills previously travelled till the starting point.

This itinerary covers sections of unpaved paths/trails, even uphill, so comfortable clothes, hiking shoes and enough water and food are recommended (don’t forget sunscreen for the summer months!).

We highly advise exercising caution when traversing the trail, particularly in sections situated along the ridge or crest of the hills. Additionally, this caution extends to the historical sites, some of which lack protective measures, potentially putting visitors in dangerous situations. Finally, we kindly request that you show respect for the rich history of these locations by refraining from climbing walls. This not only ensures your safety but also contributes to the preservation of these historical sites.

Bear in mind that Scharfenberg and Anebos are always open as they are ruins; Trifels is open normally from 10 AM to 5PM except Mondays (we recommend checking HERE for opening hours).
