Explore Giuseppe Garibaldi’s fascinating life on this dedicated itinerary. Discover both well-known and lesser-known aspects of this legendary Italian patriot. While Garibaldi is celebrated globally, his remarkable biography still holds hidden gems. Starting in La Maddalena, visit iconic Garibaldi monuments, then head to Caprera, the island where the general resided. You can bike the itinerary in just 2 hours (calculated with audio + biking distances without stops) or opt for a car-tour discovery. Given the amount of time required to fully experience the sites along the way, this tour makes for an enjoyable half-day excursion.
This itinerary pass by the following suggested museums/sites – we recommend double-checking opening hours online (tickets below are not included in this tour – you can purchase a combo ticket for the Garibaldi Memorial + House of Garibaldi):
Garibaldi Memorial (open from Tuesday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 13:AM, and from Friday to Sunday from 13:15 to 19:00)
House of Garibaldi (open from Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.)
Entrance is highly recommended to enjoy our itinerary to the fullest, but it is not mandatory!
For this itinerary, if you don’t have access to a car, a mountain bike is essential, as the route includes stretches of unpaved roads. It’s highly advisable to bring provisions such as food, ample water, and sun protection, especially on Caprera Island, where finding refreshments can be challenging. While exploring Caprera, we also strongly recommend preserving the historical landmarks by not venturing into or climbing dangerous rocks and ruins. Most of these sites are remote and hard to reach in case of emergencies. Additionally, exercise caution when sharing the road with other vehicles, and maintain a sense of responsibility, particularly on Caprera, which is a pristine island where visitors are largely self-reliant.
