The “Disciplini” in Camonica Valley

In the late Middle Ages, around the 13th – 14th centuries, a socio-religious phenomenon spread, giving life to a real confraternity: the “Disciplini”. The origin of this name has a macabre foundation since “discipline” was intended as a rather rigid and painful behaviour which went far beyond the concepts of devotion and faith. This tour aims to explore ancient villages, lake climate and alpine views, a period between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. This era was characterised by suffering and hardship due to the great conflict between the papal and imperial forces, also known as the Guelph and Ghibelline factions, that brought significant changes in the kingdoms of Europe.

Entrance tickets are not required along this tour, since it passes completely along accessible areas!
